Foreign Trade Index

Ministry of Economy - Mozambique

About the Foreign Trade Index

The Foreign Trade Index is like a thermometer for trade health:

  • āœ“When above 100, export revenue is outpacing import expenditures, earning the country more foreign exchange revenue than it is spending on buying imports, and creating more favorable terms of trade.
  • āœ—When below 100, import expenditures are outpacing export revenue — trade conditions have worsened and the country is spending more than it is earning.

This allows the Ministry to brief policymakers, explain inflation pressures, and identify vulnerable sectors (like those dependent on fuel or imported inputs).
